The other day I came home from grocery shopping to find this big, crazy, ugly, lizard/iguana in our yard. Luckily I had parked in Pila's spot that day or I would have run him over. I grabbed a load of groceries out of the back of the car and was walking to the house when I saw it and literally stopped in my tracks!! It was huge....probably about 18 inches from head to tail. I immediately called the kids to come see it.

They were as freaked out as I was. Ami wanted to catch it and keep it as a pet. Everyone was yelling at him to leave it alone, that we were not keeping it!! I thought for sure it had to be somebody else's pet, because I have never seen an iguana/lizard this big in the wild. (We have plenty around here, crawling all over the fence and backyard, but those only get to be about 4-5 inches long. Ami got a box and slowly snuck up on it and trapped it. He cut a hole in the top and put some leaves and grass inside. We hauled the groceries in the house, got them put away, and just as I was sending the kids out the door to start knocking on doors to find this things owner, we had a knock at our own door. I opened it to our neighbor, three doors down, cradling it like a baby, calling it by name, thanking us profusely for finding it. I guess it got out of his cage and he was "worried sick"
Sooooo glad, I dodged a bullet on owning a giant "lizard"!!
