Our 4th of July ended a bit different than we thought it would. After a fun filled day of the parade, a cousin soccer game (organized by Paxton), fireworks, root beer floats, and craziness we sent all of the little boys downstairs to get ready for cousin sleep over. Jaliz, Andy, Pila, and I were outside sitting on the porch talking, Ofeina came up and said "I think Mana broke his arm again" We kind of brushed it off and she insisted we come down and look. Jaliz went down, with me following behind her, I took one look at his arm and ran upstairs to get Pila. In all of my life I will probably never forget the site of Mana laying on the ground with his arm bent at this weird angle, crying hysterically, and calling my name. It took everything in me to not panic and start crying along with him!! Pila picked him up, I gave quick instructions to Ofeina that she needed to get the kids to bed, and we were off to the Emergency Room.
Mana broke his right forearm at an 80 degree angle, as you can see in the bottom x-ray. (He was climbing the bunkbed ladder when his 3 year old cousin tried to pull him down, he didn't want to land on him so he tried to jump over him and landed funny on his arm. A complete accident.)
After assessing him at the hospital he eventually cried himself to sleep and they used more medicine, through an IV line to fully put him to sleep. Then the orthopedic surgeon slowly bent his bone back into place, I insisted on being in the room with him during this process and almost wish I hadn't. The medicine they gave him gave him muscle spasms so it looked like he was having a seizure. While they were resetting his arm he was moaning and convulsing a bit, and I almost had to leave, but they kept reassuring us he wouldn't feel or remember anything when he woke up. They got his arm back in place and applied a soft splint cast with ace bandage for a week to allow the swelling to go down. It took about an hour after that for him to wake up enough that we were able to take him home from the hospital. When he woke up he happily said "It doesn't even hurt anymore!!" He had a good night's sleep at home and was no worse for wear in the morning:)
Over the next few days it hurt every now and then but as of now he says it doesn't hurt anymore. He just can't wait for the hard cast to be put on so he can be a bit more active:)
